PARENTS

PARTNERSHIP WITH PARENTS

At Total Tots, we recognise the vital role parents and carers play in their child’s early development. We aim to provide opportunities for parents to actively participate as partners in our policies, procedures, decision-making, and planning. We achieve this through creating a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment where parents feel valued and informed.

Providing a welcoming setting where

Parents are warmly greeted by practitioners and feel comfortable engaging with the nursery team.

Parents and practitioners regularly exchange information about their child’s learning, development, and well-being.

Photos of staff, children, and daily activities are displayed to help parents feel connected to the nursery community.

Children’s work is showcased through a collection of photos and creative displays around the nursery rooms, as well as via our parent apps, encouraging parents to recognise and celebrate their child’s achievements and progress.

By fostering strong partnerships with parents, we ensure a consistent, collaborative approach that supports each child’s learning journey and helps them reach their full potential.

Policies & Procedures

PARENTS AS EDUCATORS / LEARNERS

At Total Tots, we recognise that parents are a child’s first and most important educators. We aim to create strong partnerships between parents and our key workers to support and extend each child’s learning and development both at nursery and at home.

Our goals include:

Encouraging parents to actively participate alongside key workers in supporting their child’s development.

Involving parents in policy making and decision-making through discussions and feedback, including our annual feedback survey.

Providing parents with practical ideas and guidance to support learning at home, such as activities like creating a treasure box or simple educational games.

Sharing observations between home and nursery to ensure a consistent and personalised approach to each child’s development.

Offering regular opportunities for practitioner-parent liaison, fostering open communication and collaboration. Through drop in sessions, stay and play sessions and parent evenings.

Keeping parents informed through an updated notice board, handouts on activities to do at home, relevant articles from magazines, and information on current issues affecting early years education.

By working closely with families, we aim to create a seamless learning environment where children can thrive, supported by both home and nursery.

The benefits are greatest when practitioners and families work in respectful partnership to develop ways to support children both at home and in the setting. Working together ensures a good understanding of a child’s needs, leading to appropriate provision within the setting and the possibility of supporting learning in the home
